Cornwall Marine Academy partners with Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS), global leaders in fluid management technologies, to support its Academy schools outreach programme to prepare young people at school for jobs and Apprenticeships.
In making the donation, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions will become the CIC’s key corporate sponsor. Their headquarters are in Falmouth.
WMFTS is part of Spirax Group, a world-leading global thermal energy and fluid technology solutions Group. As part of the Group’s One Planet: Engineering with Purpose Sustainability strategy, Spirax Group has established a Group Education Fund. The Group Education Fund serves as a central source of funding for its operating companies to apply to for funding to meet local educational needs.
WMFTS has both a manufacturing presence and an innovation centre in Cornwall and employs around 300 people in the area. Through its parent Spirax Group, WMFTS has secured a donation of £20,000 from the Group’s Educational Fund to support Cornwall Marine Academy’s schools outreach programme.
Darren Etherington, WMFTS said, “We are committed to positively contributing to the communities in which we operate – and a key part of this is our active role within the local community of Falmouth. Cornwall Marine Academy have already achieved a great deal over the last 17 years and continue to inspire the next generation of young people coming into employment at every level. Our partnership is based on shared values and the passion we share for helping improve inclusive and equitable access to education. The opportunity to help such important work in our local community is both rewarding and exciting.”
Cornwall Marine Academy Director Dave Wickes added, “This partnership with Watson Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions will raise valuable support and awareness of our Academy work with young people. The funds will support our schools outreach programme, with 48 students from four local schools gaining career-enhancing Pre-Apprenticeship training. This includes employability skills, organisational capabilities, planning and carrying out research and resilience techniques. This will also include facilitated site visits and an interview opportunity for a work placement at Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions. Young people will gain recognised qualifications and engagement with a leading local employer, which will give them a big advantage when they apply for jobs and Apprenticeships. We’re really excited about working with WMFTS and making a difference over the coming year and beyond.”
