About Prepare to Earn
The course is titled OCN Level 1 Award in Vocational Studies
The course was created because we understand some young people are not quite ready for an Apprenticeship or to take the next step and so we deem this a ‘Pre-Apprenticeship Programme’. The course was created and developed in collaboration with industry experts. See vocational units below for those fields/ topics.
Before any course, we meet the learner(s) and get to know them by completing our own vocational profile. This includes understanding the learner’s previous education history, hobbies/ interests/ barriers to learning, favourite learning styles, etc.
We can deliver the course in various suitable locations and training facilities across Cornwall.
What skills/ topics are covered?

5 units will be studied during the course. 3 employment based units (Organisational Skills, Resilience and a Research/ Presentation project) and 2 Vocational units which the learner chooses.

- Understanding Ecology and Conservation
- Introduction to Marine Engineering
- Working in Sport and Active Leisure
- Assisting a Sports Leader to Plan and Deliver an Activity
- Health and Safety in an Outdoor Environment
- Introduction to Building and Construction
In addition to this; Interview Skills, CV Writing Support, Understanding Workplace Contracts, Job Market Research Skills, Money and Budgeting, Understanding your Own Transferable Skills and Qualities are embedded into the course.
What do you gain?
- You will gain a Level 1 Award in Vocational Studies, which will support your learning and future development. In addition, you will gain employer engagement opportunities where appropriate and relevant to the learners and the employer.
