CMA’s education and skills offer is here to support the students, educational establishments and employers we work with

Our Mission Statement

CMA provides support to young people to access careers in Marine and associated sectors.

Aided by strong support from our employer network and employer ambassadors, along with a highly 

innovative approach, CMA offers measurable impact on progression into employment and further training.

The CMA Way

The skills part of The CMA Way relates to the core and transferrable employability skills required for the world of work.

These are identified as:

Communication– what are the different ways we communicate and how do you rate your skills?

Time Keeping – how good is your time keeping? Do you complete tasks on time?

Organisation – good organisation is key. How well organised are you?

Resilience – how well do you manage stress? How resilient do you think you are?

Independence – how independent are you? Are you happy to work on your own initiative?

Knowledge

The knowledge part of The CMA Way relates to some of the learning you’ll do during your time with CMA. It’s the key things you need to understand when thinking about your future career plans.

These are identified as:

Action Planning – do you have a career plan?

Understanding careers – how much do you know about different careers sectors?

Qualifications – do you have/ are you working towards the qualifications you need to access the career you want?

Job specific information – do you have a particular job in mind and if so, what do you know about it?

Applying for jobs – do you have an up to date CV, know how to complete an application form and prepare for an interview?

Skills

CMA’s education and skills offer is here to support the students, educational establishments and employers we work with.

All activity undertaken with CMA maps to Gatsby Benchmarks and provides evidence for Ofsted’s assessment of careers advice as part of its evaluation of Personal Development on the Education Inspection Framework.

Behaviours

The final part of The CMA Way is behaviours. This mainly refers to your mind set and how you approach your work.

You need to act in a way that is appropriate for your role and the business you work for.

These are identified as:

Ambition – do you have a realistic career ambition and plan in place to get you there?

Attitude – do you look for the positive?

Confidence – what is your self-confidence like and what do you project to others?

Work ethic – how hard are you prepared to work to get the job and career you want?

Lifestyle – what is your lifestyle like? Are you in a good place both mentally and physically?

What does this mean for you?

Our Intention

During your time with CMA, you will broaden your knowledge base regarding different career pathways as well as develop employability skills and practice personal development.

The Implementation

You will learn and practice new skills through a combination of theory-based sessions delivered alongside practical, employer driven activity.

You will gain real world experience through hands-on activity in the workplace. This may be through experiences such as a work placement, job shadowing or site visits.

The Impact

At the end of your time with CMA, you will have increased your knowledge about different career pathways, developed new skills and improved your confidence. You will be ready to take your next step towards the world of work.

Our Intention

CMA’s work with young people, enhanced by real work experiences with employers will help to create the future workforce.

Using employer feedback to shape our activity, CMA will enable a work ready generation of new talent.

The Implementation

CMA is working with the next generation of employees and you can support their understanding of your sector and business. Offering information about the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you look for in an employee, site visits and/ or work experience is the perfect way to inspire your next employee.

The Impact

The young people who benefitted from your expertise have a greater insight into the jobs available in your business/ sector.

Our Intention

The CMA Way brings together the core knowledge, skills and behaviours required for success in the workplace with the strengthening of these underpinning all activity.

The Implemenation

As part of initial self-assessment learners will identify the key knowledge, skills and behaviours that they need to develop and these will be practiced throughout their time with CMA.

This can be through either qualification based or non-accredited learning.

The Impact
